From the Superintendent

Welcome to the Bolton Public Schools’ website.

We are dedicated to educating our students to become capable, ethical, healthy, responsible, and thoughtful citizens. The Bolton Public Schools Strategic Plan 2015 – 2020 and our District Goals provide the road map that ensures our students experience a personalized learning environment, dynamic teaching, high expectations, standards-based rigorous and relevant curricula, 21st century skills, and thoughtful citizenship.

Bolton is a suburban community with a welcoming rural character. The population of approximately five thousand residents supports Bolton Center School, a pre-kindergarten through eighth grade school, and Bolton High School.  Bolton Public Schools participates in the Open Choice program with the city of Hartford and Bolton High School is a high school of choice for students from Columbia, Connecticut.

We are proud of our low student-to-faculty ratio.  Our dedicated faculty is committed to a collaborative approach to teaching and learning as well as job-embedded professional development focusing on meeting the needs of all our learners.  Many of our staff members have strong ties to Bolton.  Twenty-five percent of our current staff either graduated from Bolton High School or live in the town of Bolton.

Bolton has a proven track record of outstanding academic achievement across the disciplines and grade levels.  Our curricula focuses on 21st century college and career readiness by emphasizing critical thinking, communication, creative and practical problem solving, artistic expression, physical/emotional wellness, citizenship, and self-direction.  Our district-wide efforts have earned recognition from the College Board and the Connecticut State Department of Education for our work in career readiness.

Bolton is an award winning school district.  Bolton High School is the only high school and one of three schools in Connecticut to receive the 2016 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award for Exemplary High Performing Schools.  Bolton High School is also one of 84 out of 1271 schools in Connecticut named a School of Distinction by the Connecticut State Department of Education and by the Daily Beast as one of the top 250 high schools in the country.  In addition, Bolton Public Schools has been recognized in the top ten by Nerd Wallet for Best School District’s for Your Buck in Connecticut and by Niche for Best Academics in Connecticut.

We celebrate the many achievements of our students in academics, the arts, and athletics while cultivating personal relationships which are supported by our positive school climate programs.  Our schools foster an environment focused on respect, responsibility, and compassion for others to maximize academic engagement and achievement for all students. We have over one-third of our student body participating in our athletic programs each season.  In addition, students are encouraged to discover their individual talents and interests through participation in our strong extracurricular offerings and community service experiences.   One hundred percent of our high school seniors and over eighty-five percent of our entire student body participate in community service activities each year.

We celebrate and value the partnerships that have been established between the Bolton Board of Education, administration, faculty, staff, parents, students, and the community. We hope this website will keep you informed about the outstanding programs, services, and resources that are offered through the Bolton Public Schools.  I am honored to lead this high-achieving district that is representative of the collective efforts of our entire community and look forward to our continued work together.

Teacher of the Year 2017-2018

Congratulations to Alexis Noheimer! Bolton Public Schools Teacher of the Year 2017-2018 Alexis Noheimer

The Bolton Public School district is proud to announce that Alexis Noheimer is the district’s 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year.  Alexis has been a teacher at Bolton High School for the past four years teaching such classes as History, Sociology and Government Law.  Her colleagues and students say she makes learning “come alive”.  Alexis has also served as a Mentor Teacher and was an active member in the development of our Response to Intervention Program.  She has served as the Bolton Center School Cross Country Coach, a member of the Strategic Planning Committee and a Class Advisor.

Alexis was honored at the August 28th Convocation and she spoke of how her mother, a retired educator herself, inspired her to be a teacher and to strive to make each student’s day a little better.  As Alexis noted, “….too often we rush through the day trying to cover as much material as possible. There are tests to prepare for and curriculum to get through. I love my content area and love teaching history. But what I love more, is making a positive impact on my students every single day. It is my purpose as an educator to make each student’s day better when he or she is in my classroom….”   Congratulations Alexis!
